Rev. Patricia R. Case, a Disciples of Christ clergywoman and experienced faith community organizer, joined Bread as State Organizer for Indiana in early January 2020.

Case came on board, thanks to efforts of a robust volunteer team in central Indiana, led by Dave Miner, long-time anti-hunger advocate. She works to expand the Indiana venture to the Christian community in other areas of the state.

Indiana celebrates economic prosperity at one level, ranked by U.S. News and World report as 28th of the 50 states in terms of economic stability and potential. Yet, with 2.7 million households (13.7% of Hoosiers) with no or very low access to enough food for an active, healthy life, Indiana ranks among the bottom 10 states when measuring the number of hungry citizens, according to the USDA.

“We organize faith communities to advocate for conditions that make healthy living the standard for all our people,” she says.

Bread for the World helps Christians call for bipartisan political action on matters such as:
  • jobs that provide reliable and adequate income;
  • ending bias and racist practices that create barriers to success;
  • protecting safety-net programs like SNAP to help people get through lean times.
