Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from the reinvented and fully-equipped Bread for the World office in Chicago!  We hope 2008 has offered blessings for you and your loved ones.  In these uncertain times, we find hope in the message of grace and provision for all people through Christ.

The Chicago office has seen significant change in the past year, and we are ready to move forward together into the new year.

Zach Schmidt, our Field Organizer, began working with Bread about three months ago.  Zach studied biblical and theological studies in seminary and had been in social work for the past two years.  Zach lives in the Chicago area with his wife and two year-old son, and they have another boy on the way.  Zach appreciates the way Bread weaves together faith and advocacy, and he is motivated to engage students and young adults in Bread’s work.

Anne Winslow, our Administrative Assistant, began one month ago.  Anne studied photography at the University of North Carolina before joining the Jesuit Volunteer Corps.  After two years working at a small non-profit in San Francisco, she joined her family in the Chicago area with the goal of pursuing a Masters of Business Administration with a non-profit focus.  Having worked directly with people in need, Anne is excited to contribute to an organization that addresses hunger and poverty through political action.

LaVida Davis, our Regional Organizer, began working with Bread several weeks ago.  LaVida is a long-time community organizer, who has worked on many social justice issues, including affordable housing.  LaVida lives in Oak Park, IL, with her husband and twelve year-old daughter.  She is thrilled to work for a viable, nationally- and internationally-focused organization that addresses the systemic causes of poverty and hunger.

As we look toward the coming year, with its challenges and opportunities, we are excited to join our energy and creativity with yours to make positive and lasting change.  We are grateful for your commitment to helping people who are hungry, and we look forward to working together with you in 2009.

With gratitude,
